The Godfather (Indiatoday, 09/03/01)
Playing Brando, Who but Amitabh Bachchan to step into Marlon Brando's
shoes. Producer Feroz Nadiadwala's next film Kutumbh-an adaptation of
Francis Ford Coppola's mafia epic The Godfather-willstar Bachchan and
Akshay Kumar. Says Nadiadwala: "I won't say the film is inspired but it
will be a pure adaptation of The Godfather." To add colour the shooting
will be in Brazil during the carnival festival. Some sequences will be
shot in north Africa. Nadiadwala feels he has found the most able
director to handle the theme: Mahesh Manjrekar.
Nadiawalla's Kutumbh (Rediff, 08/05/01)
Firoz Nadiadwala is making a film called Kutumb. It might not be news to
an ordinary onlooker. But look at it this way. We're talking about a
producer who has always preferred gunshots and bullets over content. And
that is why this sudden switchover in priorities makes us sit up and
take note. What's more, he has roped in none other than Amitabh Bachchan
in the lead role.
Apparently, the Big B is charged up about it.
Amitabh on Kutumb (Filmfare, 05/25/01)
There have been talks for a project to be directed by Mahesh and
produced by Firoz Nadiadwala. It's called Kutumb...in which I'll be playing a
godfather I think.Marlon Brando practised speaking his dialogue with
grapes and then cotton wool in his mouth. If Mahesh wants me to do that
too, I will. Otherwise I'll let my French beard do the talking.
Bachchan stars in Kutumb (IndiaFM, 04/09/01)
Mahesh Manjrekar is all geared up and excited about KUTUMB, which stars
Amitabh Bachchan in the central role. The film, to be produced by Firoz
A. Nadiadwala, will have a massive star cast, which is under
finalisation right now.
Filmfare Online (March 01)
Mahesh Manjrekar has just managed to pull off a coup! He has actually
convinced none other than the biggest star of the millennium, Amitabh
Bachchan, to play the central character in his forthcoming film. According to
reports, the Big B is floored with the subject and very keen on doing the
film. The only hitch so far is dates. "Right now he is busy with his other
projects," says the young director. It seems Bachchan wants to devote his
full time to the film, the subject of which is very close to his heart. The
film is titled 'Kutumb' (Family), and Sunjay Dutt, another of Manjrekar's
favourites, will also play a pivotal role in it. Manjrekar, of course, is
willing to wait till Bachchan has the required dates for the film. In fact,
he swore that he would rather scrap the film than take anyone else instead
