What is Kaante?
6 perfect strangers. 1 perfect crime. Now, all they have to fear is each
other... Three sentences summarise Sanjay Gupta's latest film -- KAANTE.
In a world where loyalties are easily abandoned and allegiances bought, six
perfect strangers come together to pull off the perfect crime. To get the job
done, they must all do what they have never done before -- trust each other.
But when their simple robbery explodes into a bloody ambush, the ruthless
killers realise that one of them is a cop. But which one?
Says Amitabh Bachchan, who plays Yashvardhan Rampal aka Major "The script is
great, I love it, but it's tricky and difficult." Sanjay Dutt, who plays Jay
Rehan aka Ajju, is more forthcoming "It gives you an excuse to live with your
dark side. The side you never express. The side that puts you in jail. The
side that wakes you in a cold sweat and with a pounding heart. The side

Sunil Shetty plays Marc Issak aka the bouncer, Kumar Gaurav is Anand Mathur
aka Andy, Mahesh Manjrekar enacts the role of Raj Yadav aka Baali and Lucky

Kaante plot/storyline rumour
The movie starts with the release of a legendary
gangster from prison (Amitabh Bachchan), he has had enough of prison and he will
commit on last job before he retire, that will set him up for life. He then
proceeds to mastermind a brilliant criminal scheme to rob the biggest bank in
the country. He decides he needs 5 guys to help him out. So he puts the word out
on the street, that he's on the lookout for 5 guys who have the relevant skills
to help him do the job. They will each get 1/6 of the loot. the first person to
get recruited is an infamous bank robber (Sanjay Dutt) with a very violent
streak.when he tells his greedy wife (Shilpa Shetty) about the job, she coaxes
him into killing the rest of the team and taking all the loot for his self when
the job is over. One by one of 3 other guys get recruited for the job, Mahesh
Manjrekar (a drug addict and petty thief), Sunil Shetty, Akhsaye Khanna/Mahesh
Manjrekar. Only one guy remains, by this time word gets out to the cops about
the job, and they put an undercover cop (Kumar Guarav), to infiltrate the gang
and after the job is over to apprehend them. So he gets himself recruited.
Everything is planned to minute detail, its agreed that no one will get hurt in
the job. So when they get into the bank and hold everyone up to gunpoint and
proceed to rob the bank, Sanjay Dutt can't help him self he gets trigger happy,
and starts gunning down the employees for the sheer hell of it, Sunil, Mahesh,
and Akshay, follow his lead and they too just start shooting all the employees
and the people in the bank. Amitabh and the job goes smoothly. But somehow AB
get to realise that there is a mole in the team, so AB takes them all to an
abandonded house, to determine who the mole is and finish him off. When he gets
there he lets them know what he has dicovered, what follows is all 6 of the guys
in the room pointing guns at each to figure out who the mole is. While this is
happening the guy (Sanjay Dutt) who wants the loot for his self is planning how
he will do away with the other and take it for himself. What follows is a
spectacular shoot out where everyone is firing at each other and at the end
there is a pool of blood and bodies all over the place...

What inspired you to start your own production company White Feather House?Well I think you need to move ahead
in life. So when I realised that I had been through every thing in life, I
realised it was time for me to attempt something new. There are lots of
benefits because I get to make films of my choice I can act or not at in
them, I can do my work as I please with out pressure. I want to give back
what I got from the film industry in terms of better films, good subjects
and lots more. Kaante will start only after a few months. As you must
already know that film is loosely based on Reservoir Dogs. So lot of good
films are happening to me. Sanjay Gupta is directing the film and even
Mahesh Manjrekar is going to act in the film.

Kumar Gaurav says he is planning another movie, ``Kante'', in which he, Sanjay Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan are in the
lead roles. ``Shooting for the film will begin in August 2001 and it will be
released by October 2002,'' says the actor who seeks to sail on two boats
simultaneously.
Mahesh Manjrekar (Screen, October 00):
You're playing a role in Sanjay Gupta's Kaante, we hear. That's right. It will give me a month to
relax in the US. I am playing one of the six protagonists. I've already
worked out my character of the drug addict and petty thief. I wasn't
forced into doing the role or anything. I just needed to do something for a
change where I didn't have to think beyond pack-up. I'll just say my
lines and keep to myself. That should be a welcome relaxation
Amitabh Bachchan, Filmfare (August 00):
Is Sanjay Guptas Kaante really a remake of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs? I think Sanjay is
inspired by it. He's setting it in America. I've just got the script for it.
It will be a start-to- finish venture in September or October next
year.
Indiafm (Apr 00):
A joint venture production company of Sanjay Dutt, Sanjay Gupta & Bobby Anand under the name and style of White
Feather Films was launched on 14th April at Shatranj, Pali Hill, Bandra They
also announced the launching of their maiden venture titled KAANTE to go on
the floors in early 2001 with a start-to-finish spell in the US. The film
stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Kumar
Gaurav and a top director in a friendly appearance. The film will be
directed by Sanjay Gupta whose birthday was also celebrated on the occasion.
